When this innocent looking column of smoke rose above Scotchman's Hill on the North Western side of Lithgow in the early hours of the afternoon of Tuesday December 2nd, 1997, few people realised the horror and tradegy that was about to unfold.
By the time the fire had swept across the Northern edge of the Lithgow Valley it had taken the lives of 2 brave firefighters.
This site is dedicated to the memory of these men and also to the memory of all firefighters from the Greater Lithgow Area who have given their lives in the protection of lives and property since the formation of the Rural Fire Service (NSW Bushfire Brigades) in 1949.
